What are Zygoma implants?

If you've lost all your teeth or need to extract all your teeth soon, and you've been told you don't have enough bone for implants, don't worry. The implant-prosthetic solution on Zygoma implants does not only take care of your smile, but restores the natural appearance of the face and the chewing function, and is also the fastest process of getting permanent teeth.

Zygomatic implants belong to the advanced techniques of implanto-prosthetics, and are intended for all patients where the placement of standard implants is not possible. For example, for patients whose alveolar ridge is completely absorbed or nonexistent due to various previous traumas, such as unsuccessful implant procedures. The main advantages of the Zygoma implants are a shorter rehabilitation time and reduced costs.

Who needs Zygoma implants?

  • Patients who have lost all their teeth or need to have them extracted soon
  • Zygoma implants help patients with a significant loss of bone volume in the upper jaw to avoid grafts and shorten the time of treatment

Zygoma implants are placed under conscious sedation or general anesthesia. Successful application of the Zygoma technique at four points requires a high level of surgical skill and training. Such a procedure requires a highly experienced clinician who can perform the entire implant-prosthetic treatment.

Unlike some other methods, Zygoma implants and fixed prosthetic solutions do not require technological solutions performed outside the patients' mouths which sometimes prolong the entire treatment. With a fixed procedure on Zygoma implants, only 24 hours after the operation the first fixed teeth are placed.

The placement of zygoma and pterygoid implants is one of the most demanding procedures in oral surgery, and the most important part is planning.

We are one of the few polyclinics in Croatia that specializes in performing procedures for the installation of zygomatic and pterygoid implants.

Problems we solve

  • Toothlessness
  • Insufficient bone volume for the placement of classic implants and the All-on 4-method

Advantages of Zygoma implants

  • A long-term solution for toothlessness
  • A solution that avoids additional operations and achieves the desired results in a shorter time

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between zygomatic and other types of implants?

Zygomatic implants, unlike classic dental implants, are not placed in the bone in place of missing teeth. We use the zygomatic bone, that is, the cheekbone. For pterygoid implants, we use pterygoid bone. Zygomatic implants are much longer, and the placement of these implants requires a lot of knowledge, experience and sophisticated technology.

One part of the technology we use combines CT diagnostics (3D) and advanced software for planning and virtual placement of implants, providing us with a base to create a surgical guide that allow us to precisely place the implants.

Is it going to hurt?

The placement of zygomatic implants takes place under a combination of local anesthesia and conscious sedation. Conscious sedation is supervised by our anesthetist. Therefore, the procedure is not painful, pain can be experienced after the procedure, but analgesics effectively alleviate it.

How many zygomatic implants need to be placed?

The number of zygomatic implants depends on the complexity of the case In some patients, the situation is extremely complex, so it is necessary to place 4 zygomatic implants. In others, a combination of zygomatic and ordinary implants, the so-called hybrid implants, can be placed.

What materials are used in a fixed dental bridge?

The material used in a fixed bridge is the same as in the All-on-4 method. The bridge structure is made of titanium, a solid biocompatible material, milled in a special Imes-Icore device in our modern laboratory. Such a procedure guarantees precision.

After making the structure, the top layer is made of composite material or zircon. We adapt the color, shape and size of teeth to your face and your wishes. Finaly, a titanium composite bridge on implants looks very similar to dental crowns and seems like a natural smile.
