What is dental calculus and how is it formed?
Dental calculus is a hard deposit on the teeth formed by the mineralization of saliva and plaque. Plaque is a colorless accumulation of bacteria that remains on teeth, crowns, bridges, and other oral cavity tissues. It is the main cause of decay of the tooth-supporting apparatus, and if it is not removed, leads to tooth loss and decay of dental bone.
How does caries form and is it dangerous?
Caries is one of the most common health problems in the world. These are damages on the tooth surface that develop into tiny openings or holes. It is caused by a combination of factors, including bacteria in the mouth, drinking sugary drinks and poor oral hygiene.
Caries is an infection of the dental tissue by microorganisms that destroy its structure. The symptoms of caries depend on which tooth is affected and how big it is. If left untreated, caries spreads more and more through the tooth tissue, causing numerous consequences and complications.
How to prevent caries?
The main way to prevent caries is proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups. Also, you can reduce the risk of caries by brushing your teeth at least twice a day with a toothpaste containing fluoride and by avoiding foods and drinks that contain sugar. Caries develop more often on the back teeth, so you should pay special attention to them when brushing.
What are the symptoms of pulpitis?
Symptoms of pulpitis include throbbing pain stronger at night or when lying down, swelling, pain when biting, fistulas in the mouth, and sensitivity to temperature changes (especially cold). Be sure to contact your dentist if you have any of the above symptoms
How long does composite filling last and when should it be replaced?
Today, composite fillings are made from light-curing materials (composites), which are of higher quality, longer lasting and of incomparably greater aesthetic value.
